MEET THE BUCKS
COMMITTEE
Although I have been a
member of the Bucks County Committee for almost 20 years, I still haven’t
personally met all of our BHS Bucks members. It recently occurred to us that
many of you may not know very much about those on your local committee, so
whilst building our new website we may as well give you some added information
about us! Jan

A farmer’s daughter, I was
brought up with horses and ponies including those my father rode and
others that were working Shires. I did the Pony Club bit and took my
tests, then married and had two sons. When the youngest was 1 year old I
bought my first horse in married life and became a Riding Club member. I
progressed to eventing and then leading rein ponies with my small
children. The role of Pony Club Chief Instructor followed, then Riding
Club Chairman. For a number of years I have been Chairman of Area 6
Regional Riding Clubs and Chairman of the BHS Bucks Committee. I am a
showing judge, un-affiliated show jumping and dressage judge and work
full time for a local Bucks charity.
Never a dull moment!

I have always lived in the
South Bucks and have been riding for approx 30 years and have fairly
good knowledge of this area. My horse is Misty who I have on
permanent loan; I have had her for 5 years she is a Grey Show Cob and is
well behaved most of the time! I mainly ride in the Penn area but
as ABO I cover the South Bucks area. I’m also on the committee for
Penn Area Bridleways Association (PABA).
Over the last 2 years I
have done 3 training courses held by the BHS on Access and Rights of
Way. I can recommend these courses to anyone who is interested to
understanding more about rights of way and the problems associated with
them. The course is run by the BHS

I
joined the Bucks Committee in 2006 because I wanted to give something
back to the horse. They
have been a huge part of my life.
I
have been involved with horses since I was four.
I have competed in the Pony Club, affiliated show jumping and
county level showing. I am
a BHSAI, trained at Porlock and I taught at Brawlings Farm and
freelanced.
But
being diagnosed with M.E. in 1990 really changed my life completely.
I was so ill, I could hardly do anything.
Though somehow I had to muck out and look after two horses seven
days a week. After many
years of struggling, a friend suggested I went to a healing group.
Slowly I got better and then I discovered Craniosacral.
I was so impressed with all the ailments it helped me with; I
just had to learn how to do it.
In 2001 I started studying, three years later I was qualified to
treat people, horses and dogs.
I love it and it gives me such pleasure to see my patients
improve.

I moved to South Bucks in June 2004, with my husband.
Originally from the East End of London, I started riding at 11
and roughly a year later had my first horse on loan.
At 21, I had my second horse on loan, until a car accident meant
I had to choose between loaning horses and getting to work!
When I moved to Buckinghamshire in 2004, it only took 6 months of
badgering my husband to let me purchase my first horse – Jovi.
18 months of sheer pleasure and joy ended recently when Jovi was
finally diagnosed with a degenerative bone condition and sadly put to
sleep. My involvement with
the Committee is a Secretary and I have only been around since the end
of 2007, so you can expect to see a lot more of me in the future – horse
or not!! |
